The Isle of Wight
The Isle of Wight offers a huge range of cultural and leisure activities that can be recommended or arranged for your stay at Rocklands Manor or indeed at Appley Beach House or Westfield Park Lodge for groups of 1-15 and 1-6 respectively, please see below.
There are fabulous wild coastal golf courses at Ventnor and Freshwater with spectacular sea views and soft gentle courses at Ryde and Osborne in the grounds of Queen Victoria’s beloved Osborne House which is open to visitors, as are the Roman baths at Brading and Carisbrooke Castle, home to the imprisoned Charles 1.
We can arrange for you to take part in a host of individual and team activities during your stay including archery, paintballing, karting, quad biking, horse riding, surfing both wind and wave, gentle or tough walking, on and off road cycling, gliding, parapenting, water sports galore, dancing, horse-riding, kayaking and of course sailing for which the Island, Cowes in particular, is internationally famous. There are challenges, thrills and courses for beginners and experts as well as the many international sailing events hosted here on the Island.
We can arrange historic and archaeological outings and experiences such as dinosaur fossil hunts, visits to Osborne House, Queen Victoria’s home here on the Isle of Wight, Carisbrooke Castle and the Roman Baths at Brading. Dinosaur fossils millions of years old are still to be found on Island beaches. Organised fossil hunts in which finders are keepers add skill to luck in the search! We have thrill rides at Blackgang Chine and the world famous White Tiger breeding programme at our zoo. Our local Bembridge airport offers private landing facilities for a range of personal craft as well as flying and gliding lessons.
We have excellent local produce from experienced, creative and internationally recognised farmers here on the Isle of Wight. There is hand reared beef and pork, famous local garlic with its own annual festival, a wide range of seasonal fruit and vegetables including local asparagus, corn and strawberries. Our local lobster and crab are superb. Fresh fish comes straight from the fishermen to cook at home or prepared for you in a wealth of excellent local pubs and restaurants. From Rocklands Manor you can walk along the cliff through botanic gardens to a trendy alfresco beach restaurant on the sandy shore at Steephill Cove where fish is cooked for you straight from the sea.
